WASHINGTON – First Lady Melania Trump broke her silence on Monday when her husband’s supporters marched into the U.S. Capitol last week, complaining that she was treated unfairly.

The absence of the First Lady caught attention in the wake of the national crisis that erupted on Wednesday when US President Donald Trump called on a large crowd of angry supporters to march on Congress.

Melania Trump’s initial comments on the ugly scenes came in a typo statement on the White House website describing herself as « disappointed and discouraged by what happened last week ».

But her disappointment apparently had as much to do with her own treatment as it did with the unprecedented attack on the homeland of US democracy.

« I find it shameful that in connection with these tragic events there has been violent gossip, unwarranted personal attacks and false misleading allegations against me – from people who want to be relevant and have an agenda, » she wrote, without specify the attacks.

She expressed condolences to the families of five people who died in the riots and listed the names of the deceased pro-Trump protesters in front of those of Brian Sicknick, a police officer who died of the wounds, which the mob had inflicted.

The First Lady praised the “passion and enthusiasm” in the November presidential election that her husband lost to Democrat Joe Biden.

“Our nation needs to heal in a civil way. Make no mistake, I absolutely condemn the violence that has taken place on our nation’s Capitol. Violence is never acceptable, ”she wrote.

The Trumps will leave the White House on January 20th, if Biden is sworn in.
