Suburbs in west Melbourne are on smoke alarms because of a fire at a recycling center.
The fire started before 6am on Monday and is now under control, according to Fire Rescue Victoria.
A pile of rubbish caught fire and it took about 40 firefighters to get it under control.
Smoke from the fire is blowing south and 17 nearby suburbs including Altona, Williamstown, Laverton, Newport, Point Cook and Sunshine West were advised. </ Authorities said there was no threat to the community but people should monitor conditions and avoid the area if possible.
« If you are smoke sensitive or live with someone who is smoke sensitive, consider windows and close doors. Turn off heating and cooling systems, « added the announcement.
» It is expected that this will be a protracted incident and the crews will remain on site to ensure safety, « it said.
