The Angels beat the San Francisco Giants 5-4 in seven innings at Tempe Diablo Stadium on Thursday.

ON THE PLATE: Mike Trout hit his first home run of the spring and started a two-run in the first inning – Explosion on the top of the grass berm in the left field. Dexter Fowler also had his first homer in the Cactus League. Shohei Ohtani was successful in his first two bats, while Albert Pujols scored a total of two double and three hits. Both improved to seven for 13 that spring.

ON THE MOUTH: Griffin Canning got off to a good start on his second spring outing, pulling back the first four batters with two strikeouts. But then the right-handed man lost his command, walking down the loaded bases before giving up a triple double clearing the bases and being removed with two outs in the second inning. Canning was reinstated to start on the third (a new rule this spring) but gave up one more walk and single before being permanently removed.

The closer Raisel Iglesias was working in a goalless fourth inning by two base runners. Reliever Mike Mayers threw a goalless fifth inning with two strikeouts.
