Soccer

Mikel Arteta: « We were on a really strong run and faced some difficult opponents. The schedule is crazy and we are constantly losing players, but we are in the right direction. » Jamie Carragher gives his Arsenal verdict after the Manchester United draw

Mikel Arteta insists that Arsenal are going in the right direction after the 0-0 draw against Manchester United.

The Gunners, who in Pierre- Emerick Aubameyang, Bukayo Saka and Kieran Tierney without three of their best players had their chances against Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s team at the Emirates Stadium.

Alexandre Lacazette hit the crossbar in the second half while Emile Smith Rowe took a shot from David de Gea and Nicolas Pepe saw, who was running late, but in the end Arsenal had to be content with a point that allowed them to extend unbeaten running in the league to seven.

Despite the result, Arteta showed who was behind A bad start to the season continues to turn the fate of his team around, positive about Arsenal’s recent advances.

« It was a big fight, both teams wanted to win, and it was a really tough game. S You had a few moments in the first half and we had the biggest moments in the second half, but to make the difference you have to score.  » when we had the big chances we had.

« Both managers probably think we should have won, it was a big game and we played against each other. Three of our best players were out and that probably had an impact, but I’m very happy with the players today.  » . «

He added, » It is [a sign of progress]. Given the circumstances and all the players we don’t have, it was a big test for us and I think the team showed up and showed how bad they wanted to win the game.

« Everyone involved in the game We did our best and we did really well, we had some bad decisions in the first half where we lost the ball in dangerous positions, but the moment we started to correct that we were better in our high .  » In the press, the team looked different and we were there to win the game.

« We were on a really strong run and faced some tough opponents. The schedule is crazy and we keep losing players, but we are in the right direction. «

While Saka and Tierney were out for light punches as a precaution, Aubameyang missed his third game in a row after leaving Arsenal’s Covid-safe bubble because of his mother’s health problems.

It remains to be seen whether he will return in time for the trip to Wolves on Tuesday evening, when Arteta announced that the situation was being discussed with the government.

When asked when Aubameyang could return, the Spaniard replied: « I know We are working with the Premier League and the government on this.

« We have to follow the rules and protocols and the protocols say he cannot be involved right now and we can have to respect that. «

Jamie Carragher from Sky Sports:

« They think about where they got their success from last season and it came down to being really organized – like they were today – and having that X-Factor counterattack when the chances came up.

« Towards the end of last season under Mikel Arteta that was a big part of the FA Cup win and how well they finished last season with this world class finisher.

“But you’re looking at the top three today. Think Alexandre Lacazette. Think Willian. Think Nicolas Pepe, it has never really happened to him since he came to the club.

« They just think about how much they miss Bukayo Saka and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang. That makes a big difference. If these two had played today and those chances had fallen on them, they would have seized the quality difference. »

» They’re still in the Europa League, that’s the way for them to get a Champions League position because there’s no way they’ll get in the top four. Can they sneak into the Europa League? That usually goes on seventh place back.  » Position.

« At the beginning of this season there was no hope of the title but I think they really wanted to fight for the top 4 on the back of Mikel Arteta, who has won many big games. » win the FA Cup.

« Because they had a really terrible time in the first half of the season that was beyond question. But for tonight’s result and performance, I think they would be without their top three players will be very happy to take one.  » Point against United – four in the season.

« I think the goal for Arsenal is to end this season really well. There are still a lot of games to play but I think in a way they are too They have young players and obviously need to add to that, but if they’re in the Europa League next season they’ll have done well given where they have been. «

Arsenal defender David Luiz in conversation with Sky Sports:

« You have to be humble because we’re far from first position. We have to take it game by game and try to improve. And then we’ll see at the end of the season. Ambition fights for first. » Position. It has to be there. I never start anything in my life without ambition. Until the moment when it is mathematically impossible, we have to try. «
