World news – Morecambe manager Derek Adams is ready for the Chelsea challenge


The League Two club is back in full training after an outbreak of Covid-19. The entire squad will be tested on Thursday morning before they clash in the third round in West London.

Shrimp boss Adams knows the fight that awaits him this weekend well. His team has reached the third round for the first time in 18 years.

Chelsea’s miserable run, with four defeats in six Premier League games, put boss Lampard under pressure and created an additional threat for Adams and Morecambe.

« I think Chelsea’s shape makes us more difficult, there’s no doubt about that, « Adams told the PA news agency.

 » Because Chelsea are obviously under pressure to make it to the next round, we know that and they were FA Cup finalists last season.

« But I think it’s going to be more difficult than it probably could have been because if they had won games it might have been a little easier for us. »

Former Ross County and Plymouth manager Adams has steered the Lancashire club to seventh place in the second division table – but his team has since No game after the 3-1 win over Grimsby on Boxing Day.

While that break has obviously stalled Morecambe’s momentum, Adams insists his team head to Stamford Bridge with confidence and determination to showcase their talents demonstrate.

« Chelsea were used to playing without fans, but the quality of the opponents does not change.
