The Supreme Court attorneys, Sheikh Mohammad Morshed and Mehedi Hasan Chowdhury, were appointed additional attorneys general on Sunday.
Sheikh Morshed, an Awami League-backed candidate, was fighting for secretary in the bar association elections of the Supreme Court 2018, and Mehedi Hasan Chowdhury is a partner in the law firm of Sheikh & Chowhury, another partner of his, the head of the Awami League and Dhaka South City Mayor Sheikh Fazle Noor Taposh.
Other Attorneys General Murad Reza and Momotaj Uddin Fakir resigned on October 11, 2020.
The resignation came two days after the government appointed the President of the Bar Association of the Supreme Court, AM Amin Uddin, as attorney general.
The position of attorney general became vacant after Mahbubey Alam’s death from COVID-19 at the age of 71 on September 27, 2020.
Mahbubey Alam became vacant e was appointed Attorney General in 2009, while Murad was appointed Additional Attorney General on March 27, 2009 and Momotaj was appointed Attorney General on July 20, 2010.
