Six-time MotoGP champion Marc Marquez will miss the season opener for the Qatar Grand Prix, organizers announced on Monday as he continues to recover from the operation.

Marquez broke his right on July 19th Poor when he fell in the first Grand Prix last season. This injury required three surgeries, the last one in December.

He returned to training in early February and was positive about his recovery, but had not set a date for his return.

While Marquez ‘medical team reported « good clinical response » after surgery for infected pseudoarthrosis of the right humerus, they decided not to rush its return to the track, the statement said.

« After the last review with the medical team, the doctors told me that it would be wise not to compete in the Qatar Grand Prix and to continue the recovery plan that has been in place for the past few weeks, » Marquez said in the statement.

« I would have loved to have taken part in the opening race of the World Championship, but we have to keep working to restore the optimal conditions that will allow us to get back to the competition. »

Marquez, who did the last season Handing over the MotoGP crown to his compatriot Joan Mir has practically excluded himself from the fight for the title this year, although Mir has commented that he is always a favorite.

Qatar, home to the first two races of the MotoGP season in 2021 has offered the COVID-19 vaccine to the sport’s entire paddock.

This month, pre-season testing for MotoGP was also conducted and Moto2 and Moto3 testing was welcomed from March 19-21.
