A senior political advisor and a senior correctional officer were arrested and charged with child molestation.

The advertiser can provide evidence that the couple were arrested after an ongoing investigation into Jadd William Brooker – the HIV-positive pedophile who tried to infect children with the virus.

The couple, 38 and 37, were arrested late Tuesday after an investigation by the Joint Anti Child Exploitation Team (JACET) of the SA and Federal Police.

The 38-year-old is a senior advisor to a state MP and the 37-year-old is a senior executive with Correctional Services.

The men are known to each other and can only be legally named when they appear in court, which is expected to happen on Wednesday.

Her arrests came following an investigation that emerged from a separate investigation by SA JACET last year against Brooker, 39, in Glenelg.

He has already pleaded guilty to some but not all of the 44 child sexual abuse charges brought against him last year.

Part of Brooker’s investigation included forensic analysis of 4.5 million digital files on its various devices.

Police will claim they found records of online conversations between Brooker and a 27-year-old Victorian man about child sexual abuse.

When Victorian JACET investigators arrested the Melbourne man earlier this year and forensically analyzed his devices, they allegedly found links to the 37-year-old and 38-year-old men in South Australia.

SA JACET investigators allegedly found a large amount of child abuse material on a USB device when they ransacked the 38-year-old’s home on Tuesday.

An office in the House of Parliament was also searched after a search warrant was issued against Speaker Josh Teague to gain access.

The 38-year-old from Adelaide is expected to face material in Adelaide Magistrates Court on Wednesday.

The 37-year-old from Port Lincoln is expected to appear before the Port Lincoln Magistrates Court on two cases of producing material for the exploitation of children, one for indecent filming, one for increased possession of material for exploitation of children and one because of the distribution of child exploitation material.

Police are working to identify the children in the seized vision to check their welfare and to keep them safe from harm. Other potential violations are also being investigated.

AFP detective superintendent Gail McClure said the investigation showed how closely Australian police have worked to tackle child exploitation and abuse.

« Our common goal is to protect children wherever they live and to ensure that anyone who tries to harm them is identified and brought to justice, » she said.

James Blandford, Superintendent of SAPOL Detective, said the strong partnership between AFP and SAPOL provides our community with a powerful force to protect children and hold criminals accountable.

« The crimes related to child exploitation are significant and harmful to victims and the entire community, due to the traumatic physical and emotional scars caused by the abuse, » he said.

« Our community must address the issue of child exploitation directly and work together to find an answer to it. »
