After missing her fourth straight win in Brooklyn on Tuesday, Kyrie Irving returned to the line-up for the Nets’ game against the Los Angeles Lakers on Thursday.
The 28-year-old security guard was at the start of this Week inactive with lower back tightness but switched from likely to available this morning. Irving’s last appearance was on Monday at the front end of a duel against the Sacramento Kings. He scored 40 points on 15-of-22 from the ground and 9-for-11 from outside the arch. The Nets will still do without striker Kevin Durant on Thursday, who will be his third straight game at a load left achilles tendon.
If you bring Irving back for a prime time match with the Lakers, Brooklyn will be a huge boost. The networks will play their fourth game in a row with a winning streak of four games. Since the addition of James Harden, Brooklyn has skyrocketed the Eastern Conference rankings, proving to be a clear contender for the title.
The Nets’ new « Big Three » haven’t seen much time together on the pitch, however. The Irving, Durant and Harden trio have only played seven games together, under various circumstances. With excruciating injuries, Irving’s seven mental games and Harden’s late-season signing, Brooklyn still doesn’t have a clear picture of what their team will be like later this summer.
If the three have played together, the nets boast a historically talented offensive. Despite fighting on the defensive, Brooklyn seems poised to outperform any other team in the league.
The nets will be tested Thursday night by LeBron James and reigning NBA champion Lakers. Los Angeles still looks strong without Anthony Davis and starts 22-7 to defend their title. The Lakers have won six of their last seven games.
Irving will be walking head to toe with former teammate LeBron at the Staples Center on Thursday night. The tip comes at 10 p.m. ET. The game will be broadcast on TNT.
