After the official signing by Norvel Pelle, the networks expect that they will get their new center on Sunday against the Wizards in Washington
However, since two roster places are still open – and one of them has to be occupied by Saturday – Coach Steve Nash expects the additions not to be made.
The least resistance route for the nets would be to have one of their two-way players – second round point guard Chris Chiozza or Rogie Reggie Perry – on standard contracts promote. But Nash admitted that it is unlikely that the nets would likely make another addition from the outside.
« I think it is possible to sign one of our two-way people, » said Nash. « But I think we probably want to sign someone here who will make a free agent deal. »
The Nets signed the shot-blocking center after swapping Jarrett Allen for James Harden in the mega-deal. While Nash has tried to tone down immediate expectations – Pelle hasn’t played this season after dating the 76ers in last year’s playoffs – there is a chance of a rotation point here.
« A lot of it – if you sign a guy in the middle of the year who hasn’t played – is his fitness and his ability to adapt to the game quickly, « warned Nash.
» But as for his profile, he’s a Rim protection center that can fend off shots and a praise threat in and behind the defense. » I think it really is like that, we’ll see how physically he can adjust to playing in the NBA again after a brief hiatus, and we can bring him up to date and see if he gets an opportunity. «
After being discharged from right Achilles surgery in June 2019 for 18 months, he was not satisfied with what is known as ‘injury recovery’.
» Just a collective decision, « said Nash. » You have to try, I think, to steal a game or two here or there on a shortened schedule if you can. He played for many minutes. Played an overtime game and it was a decision to protect him tonight. “
Friday was the sixth game he missed, even though three of the games missed January 5-8 were due to health and safety logs.
Durant looked at his MVP- I came back and came on Friday with an average of 30.5 points, 7.5 rebounds and 5.5 assists on the highest score since 2013/14 with the Thunder.
The nets started Kyrie Irving and the defensive thinking Bruce Brown the back seat, DeAndre Jordan in the middle, and paired Harden with Joe Harris on the striker, only the second front-court start of the reigning three-time top scorer’s career.
