State officials reached an agreement on Wednesday to legalize marijuana, legislative sources told the Post – just hours after Governor Andrew Cuomo called it « essential » to New York’s social and economic well-being.
The reform measures will be incorporated into law passed April 1 under the state budget, the source said.
The deal will allow New Yorkers to legally buy and own cannabis products and even a limited number of plants in their homes, according to the New York State website.
During an earlier press conference, Cuomo said he was making marijuana legal a top priority in budget negotiations with lawmakers.
« We have to get there this year , and it’s important to have it ready before the budget is passed, « he said.
