UPDATE 3.55PM: A second crane has arrived on the Peak Downs Highway in Epsom after a bucket for mining trucks fell in both lanes around 7am.

A police spokesman said traffic on the freeway was secured by 15 km for most of the day after the incident, with road closures.

The spokesman said the crews were now waiting for a large truck to connect the two cranes already on site and remove the fallen bucket.

The spokesman said the Ministry of Transport and Major Roads and the Mackay Council are also on site to investigate possible damage to the road.

Andrew Perrett, Senior Constable of Nebo, said previous detours with smaller vehicles that can turn off on Sutter Development Road were still in place.

Road users can avoid the incident by making a detour via Oxford Downs – Sarina Road, Marlborough – Sarina Road and Blue Mountain Road.

Drivers are advised to watch out for single-lane bridges and unsealed sections, especially on Blue Mountain Road.

10:48 am: Two cranes were deployed on the Peak Downs Highway after a truck lost its load near Stockyard Creek Bridge, Epsom at around 7:00 a.m.

Andrew Perrett, senior constable of Nebo, said the bucket was off the truck removed, which had fallen in both lanes of the motorway.

A police spokesman said trucks would not be able to turn around and get stuck in place, while there was a detour for smaller vehicles to turn around on Sutter Development Road.

Road users can avoid the incident by making a detour via Oxford Downs – Sarina Road, Marlborough – Sarina Road and Blue Mountain Road.

Drivers are advised to watch out for single lane bridges and unsealed sections, especially on Blue Mountain Road.

INITIAL 8:20 am: The Peak Downs Highway is expected to be blocked for several hours after a truck lost its load around 7:00 am in Epsom.

A Queensland Police Department spokeswoman said the police were on site and diverted traffic at Nebo Junction and turned vehicles to pass through Sarina.

Queensland Ambulance has not yet been notified of any injuries to the truck driver at this point.
