The postseason kicks off this weekend for the University of Utah Red Rocks # 6 gymnastics team. The Red Rocks will be number 2 in this week’s Pac-12 championship at the Maverik Center in West Valley City. The late session will include No. 1 seed Cal (No. 5 in this week’s national rankings), No. 3 seed Arizona State (No. 11 overall), and No. 4 seed UCLA (No. 13 overall). # 24 Oregon State, Arizona, Washington and Stanford will all compete in the early session.

The Red Rocks are chasing their fifth Pac-12 championship win this week. The last time the team hoisted the trophy was in 2017, but they have won the regular season championship for the past two years. Last year was the first time the conference gave a team the regular season title. They want to be the first undisputed champion since the introduction of the regular season champion in the 2019 season.

Since Cal lost to Utah a few weeks ago, the Golden Bears have fallen into tears, have the highest score in the conference (198,050) achieved and have skyrocketed in the ranking. Nevaeh DeSouza, Kyana George and Maya Bordas continue to lead the team in the all-round, while Emi Waterson scored a perfect 10 on the bars a few games ago.

Cal ranks 7th in the country on the vault and 7th on the bars 1, on the bar in 9th place and on the floor in 10th place.

After a disappointing win last week, the Red Rocks are dated for the fifth time since joining the Pac-12 (2012, 2017-19) take second place on the grid. While the number 2 isn’t what the regular season champion was expecting, they’ve won everything from that position, most recently in 2017. The Red Rocks will start the night on bars and then go on beams, floors and then finish theirs Night at the vault.

The Red Rocks dropped one place to 6th in the leaderboard this week. The Red Rocks did not publish a score last week that would have a positive impact on their NQS. But the team remains in the top 15 at all events, led by 3rd place on the bar. They rank 6th on the vault, 8th on the floor, and 15th on the bars.

Sophomore Maile O’Keefe continues to lead the team as she is again number 1 in the country on the bar . She is number 9 in the country in all-round and is number 21 in the country in bars. Alexia Burch is number 9 on the vault while Abby Paulson is number 5 on the country on the bar. And Senior Sydney Soloski is tied for number 11 in the country.

The Sun Devils have emerged as a program on the upswing this season. Head coach Jay Santos is building a program in Tempe that will reach new heights and have a bright future ahead of it. Since they recorded their season high of 197,450 against Arizona at the end of February, things have not gone so smoothly as the teams’ scores in this week’s championship have continued to decline.

Hannah Scharf and Cairo Leonard-Baker remained solid Part of the team. Sharp hit a season high of 9.95 on the floor, while Leonard-Baker’s 9.90 on the bar is the best the team has seen this season.

ASU is # 11 in the country on the vault and tied to the poles, No. 20 to the beam and No. 14 to the floor. Their first event will be the Beam.

The only two losses the Bruins have this season are due to Utah and Cal. One thing is certain, however: this is not the UCLA team for years. They have only exceeded 197 points three times this season, with a season high of 197,100.

Freshman Chae Campbell, Junior Margzetta Frazier and Senior Nia Dennis lead the Bruins with a constant 9.90 points in several events.

In the ranking list, UCLA ranks 8th in the vault. They are also tied to the poles for # 13, while they are tied to the bar for # 19 and the floor for # 6.

Both sessions of this year’s Pac-12 Championship will be on Saturday March 20th broadcast from 12 noon on the Pac-12 network. MST. The late session with Utah begins at 7 p.m. MST. Fans can also listen to the late session at the Home of the Utes ESPN700.
