The use of genetically modified crops in food production has long been controversial, but NSW has followed other mainland states to lift a long-standing ban on genetically modified plants.

While genetically modified cotton and rapeseed are allowed in NSW, the moratorium on other food crops is to be lifted from July.

NSW Farmers, partially supports the move, but would like to monitor it independently and guarantee clear food labeling for genetically modified ingredients.
