A police officer is about to undergo facial surgery after a man allegedly caused his dog to brutally attack the sergeant during an overnight operation in Sydney.
Police were called at around 1:30 am on Sunday, according to reports about a domestic incident to an address in Georges Hall near Bankstown.
A 52-year-old man barricaded himself in the garage with a dog that fled onto the street when he was arrested.
The dog was recaptured from a woman at home but slapped the policeman in the face while speaking to her.
He has been charged with a variety of criminal offenses, including common assault (domestic violence) and two cases where a dog was attacked or bitten.
The officer suffered severe facial injuries and was treated by paramedics before being rushed to Liverpool hospital to await surgery.
