World news – Olivia Jade Now – What happened to Lori Loughlin’s daughter after Operation Varsity Blues?

The college admissions scandal is the largest of its kind in US history.

« It just sucks to feel that way, » says a devastated high schooler in Netflix’s Operation Varsity Blues (OVB).

She is just one of several teenagers in the documentary and thousands of others across the country who have been turned down by their college (or university, depending on where you’re from) of choice.

The heartbreak is noticeable. Their dreams of visiting Stanford, Harvard or USC died a death when the path they had envisioned was torn apart and thrown into the proverbial leap.

« And I know the people who walked in really deserved it, » she adds, to soften the blow.

In her mind, at least, were those who sat where she would have sat, attended the classes she had already circled in the prospectus, and threw themselves into the student clubs she’d had her eye on for almost two years , worthy of their places. They had earned their place through academic brilliance and diligence, or by tearing it apart on the soccer field or in the pool. At least that’s what she thought. Many of us would have assumed that.

But while some of the various student groups made it to the promised land on their own merit, there were a number who were there because of their parents’ deep pockets, which were made easier by Rick Singer and his « side door ».

The admission advisor accepted bribes, which he passed on to college sports coaches and exam administrators as « charitable donations » to guaranteed places at the most prestigious US universities.

Olivia Jade sits in the latter category. She is the daughter of Lori Loughlin, an American actress best known for the sitcom Full House and its sequel Fuller House, 90210 and When Calls the Heart. Her father is fashion designer Mossimo Giannulli.

In the documentary we learn that neither Loughlin nor Giannulli went to university, but they felt it was important that their children do so, which is certainly not uncommon. But Olivia Jade wasn’t your average teenager. She was a successful influencer with a large following on her social media platforms and her own fashion and beauty collections such as Princess Polly and Sephora, as well as countless other paid partnerships.

As Naomi Fry of The New Yorker notes, « she was very successful in what she was doing ».

Obviously, her lack of interest in science was also evident. She wanted to drop out of high school and no way to go to college. But as one of the speakers at OVB acknowledges, many involved in the scandal were concerned with realizing their untapped dreams of college life through their children.

Both Olivia Jade and her sister Isabella Rose were not admitted to the USC as experienced helmsmen despite having no experience in rowing.

The documentation shows a photo of Olivia Jade on a rowing machine. It was included on their academic profile which was sent to USC. But when it was discovered by the counselor at her high school, he grew suspicious after previously seeing no evidence of Olivia Jade’s involvement in rowing.

More than 50 people were charged with participating in the program, and a number of individuals including Loughlin and Giannulli and Desperate Housewives’ Felicity Huffman have since been found guilty.

Prosecutors said Olivia Jade’s parents spent $ 500,000 on admitting their children to the USC. After initially denying the charges, they were convicted of wire and postal fraud conspiracy.

Loughlin was sentenced to two months in prison, two years’ custody release, a fine of $ 150,000, and 100 hours of community service.

Giannulli received a five-month prison sentence, two years’ custody release, a $ 250,000 fine and 250 hours of community service.

Olivia Jade’s public image took off when the news hit the headlines. She lost many of her sponsorships and her makeup palette with Sephora was discontinued.

She has been regularly ambushed by the paparazzi and verbally abused online, which explains why comments are now limited on her Instagram account.

Your spending on YouTube also fell sharply. Olivia Jade shared a video on December 1, 2019 after more than eight months of silence on the platform. On « Hi Again, » which is only two minutes long, she said she was not legally allowed to speak about the case, which would have been a disappointment to those behind the 6.2 million views it has amassed. She still films vlogs but doesn’t upload as regularly as she used to.

But while her audience is still sizeable – she has over 1.2 million followers on Instagram and over 1.86 million subscribers YouTube – working with big brands certainly feels too distant right now, and OVB is unlikely to be helping their cause. But people have been forgiven for much worse.

In March 2019, it was reported that both Olivia Jade and her sister were still enrolled at USC (via Vox).

« USC is conducting a case-by-case review for current undergraduate and graduate students who may be related to the government’s claimed system and will make informed decisions once these reviews are completed, « the college said in a statement.

But in August a source told ET Online that she « has no plans to return to USC. She never wanted to attend USC at first, and now she’s sure USC isn’t the place for her. Im Her goal now is to rebuild her brand and her business. « 

Olivia Jade performed at the Red Table Talk in December 2020 with hosts Jada Pinkett Smith, her daughter Willow and her mother Gammy.

On the When asked if she knew about the scam, she said, « When I applied [to college], I wasn’t sure what was going on. When I got home [from Spring Break 2019] I was just so ashamed . I thought I can’t go back [to school]. I never went back. I was too embarrassed. I shouldn’t have been there at all, clearly. « 

Olivia Jade also said she was » very close to her parents.  » « Be adding, » Especially my mom. She’s my best friend. It’s definitely hard not m to be able to speak to her. «
