Memphis has seen a surge in offense lately, scoring more than 70 points in each of the last three games. On Thursday in Dallas, the Tigers will try to defeat the SMU for the second time in three nights.
This season, Memphis had significantly more successes on defense than on offense for coach Anfernee “Penny” Hardaway. He recorded the fourth longest points per possession in the nation and posted the 198th point per possession for the week.
SMU has played each of its last four games against Over, including Tuesday’s 76-72 loss to Memphis as the Mustangs made 11 of their 25 3-point attempts. Both teams rank in the top 20 for the percentage of shots they face in defense, with Memphis 9.9 of the opponent’s shots and SMU 8.6 percent blocked. Everyone is also in the top 35 in 2-point target defense.
