Long lines in front of bars and restaurants caused by filling out QR code details could be a thing of the past with today’s nationwide rollout of a new COVID-19 check-in app.
Check-In Qld, a government developed QR app, launches across Queensland today, promising faster access to state restaurants.
After a single use, the app saves a person’s details, saving time by eliminating the need to fill out forms at each venue.
Companies can also benefit from the new app, the data of which is sent directly to the state government.
« The new Check-In Qld app is free, contactless, secure, and convenient, and I know it’s being adopted by venues and people across the state, » she said.
« It makes it easier for all restaurants to comply with public health instructions by enabling customers and customers to check-in themselves and store their information securely.
« Having a safe and consistent check-in app is a top priority as we embrace the ‘new normal’ of a safer COVID environment. »
Ms. Palaszczuk encouraged companies to sign up for the new app, but said it was not mandatory.
Doug Meagher, manager of the Orion Hotel Springfield, said the new app saved time for staff and made it easier for customers to access the venue.
« The introduction of this app is a huge step forward for Queensland in maintaining a COVID-safe environment, » he said.
More than 204 companies use the app, and around 29,000 customers have used it to check in.
Health Secretary Yvette D’Ath said the app was endorsed by Queensland Health and would play a crucial role in the state’s contact tracing efforts.
« The new Check-In Qld app will help Queensland Health’s hard-working contact tracing team quickly identify and support anyone who may have been exposed to COVID-10, » she said.
« People can rest assured that check-in details are securely stored by the Queensland government for 30 to 56 days and only used when necessary for contact tracing.
