Harlem residents gathered for a rally to support one of their own. The rally was held in response to a brutal attack on a woman outside a liquor store in Harlem last week.
CBS reported that the demonstration took place outside Adam Clayton Powell Jr.’s state office building on Saturday. About 100 people came to denounce the heinous attack on the 31-year-old unidentified woman.
« This is the liquor store where the young lady was attacked. Harlem not with the bullsh ** t, ”wrote a resident tweeting video of the event, adding the hashtag #ProtectBlackWomen.
According to CBS News, a trio of thugs attacked the woman after they attacked one of the male suspects had rejected. The 31-year-old mother went to the store on West 128th Street and St. Nicholas Avenue around 6 p.m. last Monday to buy a bottle of wine. One of the men (seen in video footage in a red coat) offered to buy the drink for her, but she declined.
“I politely declined,” the woman explained, “and I said,“ No. , thank you, but thank you. I can pay for it myself, ”she told CBS News.
The suspect took the woman’s » no thanks « as an insult. She further stated that « basically said that he felt I was better than her. »
The victim gathered her things and left the store. It got worse here. The group of men followed her out of the store and got more aggressive.
« I just asked him, I said, » You are seriously trying to fight me? I’m trying to go about my business, ”she recalled in response to the threatening behavior of her attacker.
The group of men chased the mother and the surveillance captured the gang, who maliciously kicked and beat her. One of the suspects viciously slapped her face and injured her eye – which no longer opens.
« To bite me and do that, » the woman told the news agency. « Muzzle like him – screaming with me and saying » I’m just trying to get my daughter. « That – that’s an animal. That’s not a person. »
After the gang beat the woman, they stole her cell phone after it fell from her hands.
CBS News also reported that after the attack, a person at the crime scene urged the woman to flee. The suspect allegedly assaulted another woman in the past.
