World news – Rapinoe replied to Draymond’s attitude towards women’s sports: « That is not at all acceptable. »

Draymond Green said last week that women athletes should stop "complaining" about the pay gap.

Megan Rapinoe, the outspoken star of the US women’s soccer team, called Warriors striker Draymond Green an « ass » for his recent comments on complaints from female athletes.

« It’s really unfortunate what position he is in, having all the resources and then having the ability to have a much more informed opinion that he just doesn’t, » Rapoine told the US on Wednesday American Olympic Virtual Media Summit.

Last week, Green said that women athletes need to stop « complaining » about the pay gap between women athletes and take action. Green spoke at a time of turmoil about the inequalities between the NCAA tournaments for men and women.

« They’re not setting out any steps they can take to change that, » Green said at the time. « It’s a complaint because the people who can change it will keep saying, » Well, the revenue isn’t there. If you don’t bring in the proceeds, we won’t be able to increase your salary. « You will continue to use this, but the reality, as true as that is, is an excuse. Everyone is saying, » We support women. We support empowering women. We support women in the workplace. We do this for women. We do X for women. Blah, blah, blah. «

Green’s comments to reporters came days after he posted on Twitter that women athletes should » stop « allowing companies to » empower women.  » scream ».

Rapinoe, who faced former President Donald Trump during the 2019 World Cup, turned her attention to Green. When asked about the NBA player’s comments, Rapinoe said, « You are creating a controversy here in California. »

« I spoke about this at a time when the tournament was held with a lack of investment, resources and funding, » she said. “It’s really frustrating, that’s the attitude you have. You showed your whole ass because you didn’t even understand what we’re talking about all the time.  »

Rapinoe, who is trying to form her third straight Olympic team in Tokyo this summer, added that Green was teaching the wrong people to tell female athletes to do more.

« Don’t you think we asked for more money? » She said. “What are we shouting about without stopping? To be honest, we get obnoxious to ourselves.  »

It also bothered the striker that Green didn’t go back on his Twitter comments when speaking to reporters last week.

« We know of all social movements and all people who are marginalized, whether by race or gender or whatever, it’s not just their job to fight oppression, » she said. “It’s really disappointing to have someone who knows what it’s like to be oppressed in so many ways, to spread that across to all players.

World Cup star Megan Rapinoe has an awkward relationship with Redding

“He has all the resources in the world. There are a lot of great people working in the Warriors organization. I am sure that they will be very happy to sit down with him. And each of us would love to sit down with him. Hopefully this educational process comes because that was really disappointing for someone with such a large platform and that is not at all acceptable.  »

Rapinoe replied to Green’s comments on Twitter last week. WNBA star Layshia Clarendon, a Cal alumna, said, “Call NBA guys who tell people in women’s sports what we need to do to make the game better. Thank you so much, now we’re going to ask for more resources, share the powers to tell our stories more, and in general just start pushing things like the NBA. Problem solved. «
