While Nebraska’s head coach Fred Hoiberg was in Lincoln, his eldest son Jack studied under Tom Izzo at rival Michigan State. After entering the transfer portal last week, Jack Hoiberg decided on a new destination.

Hoiberg went on Twitter on Wednesday and announced that he was bringing his talents to the Sun Belt Conference and joining UT-Arlington. Hoiberg joins a Mavericks team that has had a 13-13 season and finishes third in the sunbelt.

The move completes a departure from East Lansing that Hoiberg announced a week ago. Hoiberg appeared in 14 games last year and scored seven points, five assists and three rebounds in 43 minutes.

He finished his time in Michigan with 36 points, eight rebounds and 20 assists. He even received a scholarship for the 2020-21 season.

« I am pleased to announce that I am entering the transfer portal, » said Hoiberg in a statement last Wednesday. “I am grateful for all the great experiences and everything I learned at MSU. A big thank you to my trainers and the friends I met along the way. I’m looking forward to my next chapter. I will be a Spartan for life! « 

Last week, Jack Hoiberg’s younger brother Sam announced his commitment to Nebraska. Sam Hoiberg cited a longstanding desire to play for his father to join the Huskers.

But Jack clearly has other goals for his College basketball career. UT-Arlington is not exactly a regular NCAA tournament and only appears once in its history.
