St. Johns will be in the garden without reserve striker Isaih Moore for the quarterfinals of the Big East tournament on Thursday against Seton Hall, the school announced two hours before the start.
A member of the first-class support – Program staff tested positive for COVID-19 on Monday, and Moore has been traced back to that person, forcing him to quarantine. Moore was in New York with the Johnnies when his status was determined.
Because the school had taken extra precautions regarding distancing and PPE practices, no other member of the team or staff was affected. St. Johns said the decision was made in accordance with New York State and Great East protocols. The 6-foot-10 Moore, averaging 9.2 points and 4.8 rebounds per game had become a key piece for coach Mike Anderson, despite only playing three minutes in Saturday’s win over Seton Hall.
His absence will likely mean a bigger role for undersized striker Marcellus Earlington, a physical junior capable of stretching opposing defenses out of the vicinity. It is uncertain how long Moore will have to be quarantined or whether he would be available in the tournament as St. John’s progresses.
