The St. John’s Red Storm and Marquette Golden Eagles will meet for the last time of the regular season at the Fisery Forum in Milwaukee on Sunday (Jan. 31, 3:30 p.m. ET) , Wisconsin.

The Golden Eagles won the first meeting of the season between the two schools on January 16, 73-71. Current odds show Marquette as the 3.5 point favorite in the matchup.

St. Johns will attempt to win their third game in a row when they face Marquette. In their final street game, the Red Storm embarrassed DePaul 81-69 as one point favorites. Marquette will be looking to protect her home court after losing the last time at the Fisery Forum to the same DePaul team 68-61.

The Red Storm ranks 24th in the country averaging 79.8 points per game . Over the past three games, they’ve increased performance to 83.7 points per game. They play at the 14th fastest pace in the nation (adjusted to the opponent), but their rating isn’t just due to the extra possessions. In their last game against DePaul, the Red Storm made only 65 shots and could hang 81 points.

The Red Storm burned and lost 49 points in the first half against the Blue Demons. The first high-scoring halves have been a habit for St. Johns during their current winning streak, as they averaged 42 points in the first half per competition. This mark is 14th in the nation by this distance. St. Johns was led by Vince Cole, who came to life for the second year in a row with 18 points in a 7v16 shooting night.

Since Marquette beat St. Johns on January 16, was postponed one game and lost two more. They couldn’t score more than 63 points in either defeat, and one of those games went into overtime. Sales have been a problem for the Golden Eagles all season, and they were again a problem in the Providence loss.

The Golden Eagles are currently ranked 229th in the nation in sales per possession with a 19.8% mark. Cold shooting combined with turnovers meant that Marquette only scored 18 points in the first half in the Providence game. They fought back and scored 41 points in the second half, but were driven 13: 4 in extra time.

The Red Storm will undoubtedly have revenge on their mind if they tip. They really should have won the last time these two teams met, and they seem a much better team. They only shot 38% off the ground in that meeting, despite connecting on 40% of their three-pointers.

This season, St. John’s shoots 45.2% off the ground and 47.4% in the last three Play. Marquette ranks 42nd in the nation for the percentage of opposing field goals so they can slow down the Red Storm, but keeping them back at 38% is a big question. Look for St. Johns to get closer to the 80s in the scoring column as you score another win on the road.
