During the fourth quarter, Warriors rookie Nico Mannion was desperate for his own dribble when heat guard Tyler Herro tore the ball away and threw it to a sprinting Andre Iguodala.
Mistakes like these ultimately sank the Warriors in their loss to Miami Heat on Thursday evening at the AmericanAirlines Arena between 116 and 109. Despite 36 points from Stephen Curry and 23 from Andrew Wiggins, the Warriors (23-25) turned the ball 20 Times around, which was 27 points for the heat.
In a game of 14 leadership changes, Iguodala ended this fast break with a dunk to interrupt a 10-0 run that increased the heat by 12 to 7:22. Before this crucial run, the Warriors gave each other a chance on the road in the first half.
Wiggins poured three 3-point points in the second quarter alone, Draymond Green 16 points and Curry 9:19, 13:13 of which from the free-throw line. His consecutive 3-pointers and free throws by 49.5 seconds reduced the deficit to six, but that wasn’t enough to clear so many wasted possessions. Curry’s Airball with a 12.2 second lead shaped the loss. For the Heat (25-24), Jimmy Butler had 22 points, eight assists, six rebounds and four steals, while Herro finished with 20 points and two steals. Iguodala, the former warrior, scored all 10 points in the closing stages.
However, the loss could be Golden State’s slightest problem. During the fourth quarter, guard Jordan Poole and center Kevon Looney both left the game with ankles twisted. At press time, it was unclear whether any of the players would miss games with these injuries.
On Friday, the Warriors will travel to Tampa to play the temporarily relocated Toronto Raptors for the second game of their 10th back-to-back set of the season.
