World news – Supercars Sandown 2021: Mostert storms the pole in Sandown, van Gisbergen fights, reports on video highlights

Chaz Mostert threw former teammate Cameron Waters in Sandown to the first pole position since Tailem Bend last season.

Mostert tamed the first three-part qualifying of the new season and took first place in the ARMOR All Qualifying for race 3.

It was the 22nd pole for the Bathurst winner in 2014 and the second for Walkinshaw Andretti United his breakthrough at Tailem Bend last year.

In Mostert’s Flyer, the record in the Sandown qualifying round was also dropped, with the Holden star falling below 1: 07.773 by Scott McLaughlin as of 2019.

In qualifying for race 3 the first three-part qualifying of the season took place. The first 10-minute qualifying segment was marked halfway through the red flag after Jack Smith shot into the sand trap at Turn 9.

When the session resumed, Mostert was 1: 07.934 seconds ahead of Whincup, Shane van Gisbergen and Anton De Pasquale at the top.

In the second verse Mostert jumped to the top with 1: 07.882 seconds, Winterbottom only 0.06 seconds behind.

Remarkably, positions seven to 18 were out of 0.1 Seconds covered, with eight drivers in the brackets of 1: 08.2 seconds.

Of the eight drivers, seven did not make the top 10, and Brodie Kostecki snuck in just 0.01 seconds ahead of James Courtney. </ Some key names didn't make it to the final stanza, including Courtney (11th), Nick Percat (14th), David Reynolds (16th), van Gisbergen (17th), Scott Pye (18th), and Tim Slade (19th) ).

Before the final runs in the third part of the session, Waters was 1: 08.13 ahead of Kostecki, Whincup and Brown.

Mostert shot up with 1: 07.63, although Waters failed to defeat his former teammate from Tickford could.

Whincup, who led the first practice session in the morning, was third ahead of Winterbottom, Jack Le Brocq impressed on de n fifth place.

Andre Heimgartner was the meat in a Shell V-Power Racing Team sandwich, Anton De Pasquale sixth and Will Davison eighth.

The Erebus Motorsport duo Brodie Kostecki and Will Brown also impressed wildly and rounded off the top 10.

For Mostert, his first pole position in six months was a good reward when he was looking for his first race win for WAU.

« We had a bit of problems with training and tried to Finding the balance of the car.

“We worked very hard. The guys didn’t stop, they didn’t even have morning tea or lunch break like they normally would.

« Maybe the track just needed a year off … obviously good conditions, cold temperatures, but overall super excited, the car was good. «
