Swell Energy has launched a new Solar Plus storage program for homeowners in Queens, New York. The program is being used in partnership with New York City’s energy company Con Edison, and aims to deliver solar-powered household batteries to eligible customers to create an aggregated network of distributed energy resources.
New York State is aiming for one by 2030 installed energy storage capacity of 3,000 megawatts and an emission-free electricity sector by 2040. Con Edison’s sourcing efforts for non-wires solutions, including the Swell program, support these government goals. The program will help reduce demand and relieve the power grid during peak times without the need to build and upgrade additional energy infrastructures. With hundreds of households in a reduced coverage area using less power at peak times due to Swell’s solar and storage systems, Con Edison can improve reliability for all customers.
Homeowners who participate have the opportunity to receive incentives that in turn, reduce the cost of clean, reliable solar and storage systems. Residents of Forest Park, Glendale, Hunters Point, Long Island City, Maspeth, Middle Village, Ridgewood, Sunnyside and parts of neighboring Queens can now reserve their place to participate in the program.
