Members of the Golden State Warriors celebrate on the bench during a game against the Sacramento Kings.

The team went to Twitter on Wednesday to share a viral video of the half-court shot, which saw players cheering during practice. While Warriors fans have gotten used to watching Steph Curry take practice shots from halfway and beyond, this time around it was a new sniper – sports coach Long Lam.

The 18-second video showed a mask-wearing Lim standing right behind the Portland Trail Blazers logo in midfield, dribbling and taking a few steps before firing the shot towards the hoop, catching nothing but a net and frenzy the players. Lam ran to the sidelines as the players ambushed him and cheered his unlikely bucket out.

The video sparked viral interest, and received more than 150,000 views within hours of its release. It was also shared by the Santa Cruz Warriors, Golden State’s NBA G-League affiliate, with whom Lam previously served as the head coach for sports.

As the National Basketball Athletic Trainers Association noted, Lam is in his first Season as assistant to the sports coach at Golden State. The Texas native had also worked for the G-League subsidiary of the Houston Rockets and interned with the Rockets.

The video showed how the Warriors players break up before a seemingly critical game. The team enters the final two-game stretch before the All-Star game and faces the Trail Blazers with a chance to move up the playoff ladder. The 19-16 Warriors currently occupy eighth place in the Western Conference and could win a critical game against the 19-14 Blazers. Lam’s long-range shot may not be the longest of the day as two of the best snipers in the league in Steph Curry and Damian Lillard face each other.

Lam still has a long way to go to find Curry, the king of warriors halfway to catch up. While the coach enjoys his moment to shine after drilling the practice shot, Curry has a lot going for it, including training earlier this season where he casually drilled four half-jumpers in a row.

Curry even created a ritual before that Game where a shot was thrown out of the tunnel that he pinned down on a regular basis. As the San Francisco Chronicle noted, this setting became so popular that fans showed up early just to see him try.

« I hadn’t really noticed people making an effort to do this, because it’s something I’ve been doing for a while – as part of my routine, not for shows, « said Curry.

» When I heard this, I didn’t mean to say I was feeling pressure, but I thought: « Wow, you came here to see this recording. It’s part of their experience. And it would really suck if I missed all five takes tonight because they came to see it. «
