Daniel Farke admitted it was a mission for Norwich City but they had to make it the hard way in a 1-0 win over Rotherham.

Teemu Pukki’s 15th goal of the season brought the Canaries one after another tense second half on Carrow Road seven points ahead of their promotion rivals.

City was indebted to Max Aaron’s defensive instincts to block Matt Crooks’ purposeful efforts as Paul Warne’s fighters pushed for a leveler.

« I’m with one Victory satisfied. I don’t want to use the word ‘but’ even though it was a tough game for us. You have to be on every second in this league. Look at other results. It’s a big compliment to my boys that they deliver so consistently, « said Farke. « The 1-0 result is actually a joke. The game should be interrupted at halftime.

» When I think not only about the goal, but also all other situations. Teemu, Mario (Vrancic), Emi (Buendia), all with a central shot chances. If we could pick three players to take these positions, I would choose those three. «

» Max Aarons thought he was offside when Kenny McLean played him that long ball into the box with the goalkeeper behind him. He could have run into the empty gate. We should have been at least 3-0, 4-0 at halftime. « .

» Second half, maybe not that many chances, but some good shooting positions. If you don’t score against Rotherham this second, they are a brave team with guts and they will try. You have to play without mistakes. That’s the task.

« Tim Krul barely had a save. But Max had to fix a scene with a massive block on the line. After that game our goal difference should look much better, but I’m happy with the win. The three points are the most important. «  »

Farke was forced to make a change when Ben Gibson woke up with a back complaint on the morning of the game. Christoph Zimmermann pushed himself next to Grant Hanley to anchor another goal.

« Ben reported some back problems. It came more or less suddenly because there weren’t any problems before, « said Farke. » It can happen that you play on these fields every three days. We talked, and if he doesn’t have 100 percent, we have a tight squad. There’s no point in starting him.

« We tried everything to get him on the bench, but he was uncomfortable sprinting in warm-up, so we put Andrew Omobamidele on the bench.

« I was completely convinced that Christoph would do a top job. It’s weird because he’s so sharp, disciplined and focused in training. It’s difficult to leave someone out with their quality and experience. He paid back my trust. It’s not easy. « To come for this situation when you haven’t played. »
