The game ended, and then suddenly the Ducks video call after the game on Tuesday from the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas after the Golden Knights canceled their COVID-19 protocols after Vegas’ Tomas Nosek from the competition.

Troy Terry spoke for nearly 10 minutes, expressing the anger and frustration he and his Ducks teammates felt after recovering from a three-goal deficit to start the third half in minutes play.

Trainer Dallas Eakins was due to speak next, but his interview was cut short when the Ducks followed the lead of the Golden Knights. It was not immediately clear when the ducks learned why Nosek had left the game in the second period or why the game was allowed to continue.

There was also no official reason for Nosek to leave the game. Golden Knights defender Shea Theodore also failed to play in the third period but was sustained by the ducks early in the game after an accidental collision in the center ice with Nicolas Deslauriers.

Vegas postponed three games earlier this season after two players and three coaching staff were added to the NHL’s COVID-19 list. The Golden Knights returned to their practice hall just last week and resumed the game on Friday with a victory over the Kings.

Two of the Ducks’ upcoming games, including one against the Golden Knights, have been postponed for April to include Vegas and the San Jose Sharks. None of the ducks’ players, coaches or employees had been put on the COVID-19 list by Tuesday.

Defender Alex Pietrangelo was the last player in Vegas to be cleared for play when he was removed from the COVID-19 list earlier in the day. He did not appear in the Golden Knights victory over the Ducks, which gave Vegas an 8-1-1 record and kept him in first place.

Vegas built a 3-0 lead in the second period and a 4-1 lead in the third before the Ducks (5-6-3) rallied for a 4-4 draw. Whitecloud, a defender, ran out of bounds, lunged for a rebound and fired the puck past Ducks goalkeeper Ryan Miller at 4:04 p.m. in the closing stages.

Chandler Stephenson, Jonathan Marchessault, Alex Tuch and Nicolas Roy also scored goals for Vegas, and goalkeeper Marc-Andre Fleury scored 19 saves as the Golden Knights beat the Ducks for the third time in as many games to make the season start.

Terry, Isac Lundestrom, Adam Henrique and Ryan Getzlaf (power play) scored a goal for the ducks. Terry, Henrique and Getzlaf scored a goal in the third half in just 4:57 minutes, turning a 4-1 deficit into a 4-4 draw, with 10:01 remaining in the regular game.

« The comeback I think shows the resilience of our team and we can play with any team in this league, » said Terry. “But nobody is happy right now. It’s a mindset. It’s been like this since I’ve been here. We can’t be happy to come back and close it.

« Then we have to change our attitude. It’s not good enough to keep getting closer. »

Miller started in goal for the second straight year, filling in John Gibson on Tuesday, who needed stitches to heal a wound he sustained in training Monday. Gibson missed the team’s flight to Las Vegas and drove himself to stay on the COVID-19 log.

Before the game, Eakins said he expected Gibson to come back to the team for training on Wednesday and start the rematch against the Golden Knights on Thursday. However, this was long before Thursday’s game was jeopardized by the Golden Knights’ return to COVID-19 protocol.
