World news – The Eagles’ search for a coach is hit by the rejection of Lincoln Riley

The Philadelphia Eagles reiterate a good rule of thumb: Don’t fire a coach who has won the championship unless you have a secret replacement.

Oklahoma coach Lincoln Riley was the team’s first choice to lead Doug To replace Pederson, but he turned down an offer, according to the Philadelphia Inquirer. That’s no surprise, as Riley’s name is revealed as the top contender every year, but he remains in the college ranks after sending number 1 overall pick Baker Mayfield and Kyler Murray to the NFL.

It It doesn’t seem like there is a new favorite, but Colts offensive coordinator Nick Sirianni had a « good interview » according to NJ.com. The Patriots Offensive Coordinator Josh McDaniels interview lasted two days.

Other available individuals who have interviewed or are expected to be interviewed include Saints Defense Coordinator Dennis Allen, the coach of Eagles, Duce Staley, the Patriots linebacker trainer, Jerod Mayo, the Panthers offensive coordinator, Joe Brady, the Cowboys offensive coordinator, Kellen Moore, and the Buccaneers defensive coordinator, Todd Bowles.

A common thread under Sirianni, McDaniels and fan favorite Staley is that none of the three were interviewed for any of the other six positions as head coach this off-season.

Meanwhile, Pederson has been linked to the Seahawks as an offensive coordinator candidate. But he told the investigator he tended to « take the next year off » and prepare to return in 2022. It seems this is becoming an increasingly popular option for laid-off head coaches who are wary of doing more harm than good to their reputation by taking a brief step backwards as a play caller.

Of course, the Eagles fans are hoping for the second time in five Years to catch lightning in a bottle.

After firing Chip Kelly, the Eagles didn’t have a top pick because Adam Gase went to the Dolphins and Ben McAdoo to the Giants. Both were fired within three seasons while Pederson spearheaded the Eagles’ first Super Bowl win.
