GMC Hummer EV VIN 001 crosses the auction block for a lot of money and for a good cause.
The first series production of the upcoming Hummer EV was sold at Barrett-Jackson for an incredible 2.5 million US dollars. The first example of the revitalized Hummer brand that crossed the block at Barrett-Jackson’s high profile sale in Scottsdale, Arizona was sold, and all of the proceeds went to the Tunnel to Towers Foundation.
For those who didn’t up to date, the Hummer brand has been brought back to life as an electric vehicle and the script about the weirdly poor fuel economy of the original Hummer has been reversed. This new Hummer generates 1,000 horsepower and 11,500 lb-ft of wheel torque with three electric motors. The combination is solid enough to get this big SUV to 60 mph in about three seconds, according to GM. That’s fast in every way, but incredibly fast for an SUV the size of the Hummer EV.
The excitement surrounding the new Hummer EV and the fact that the proceeds were used for charity drove the high hammer price. The Barrett-Jackson auction gave up its normal feel, which means that the knockdown price was the actual selling price.
If you’re not the lucky bidder to win the auction for the first new Hummer, people join in GMC reservations against. When all First Edition models are included, reserving a model today likely means it will be fall before you see your Hummer EV – fall 2022.
