Voters from the Maharashtra Vikas Aghadi (MVA) coalition are set to hold a series of meetings on Monday and are expected to take a decision on Anil Deshmukh, the state’s interior minister who was accused of extortion by former Mumbai policeman Param Bir Singh . The MVA consists of three parties – Shiv Sena, Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) and Congress.
NCP chief Sharad Pawar said on Sunday that the allegations against Deshmukh are serious and that it is the prerogative of Prime Minister Uddhav Thackeray remove him. Pawar also said that he will hold meetings with his party leaders on Monday and speak to Prime Minister Uddhav Thackeray on the matter.
Pawar also said that Singh made the allegations after his rendition to the Home Guards on March 17. He added that the development will have no impact on the MVA government.
The Shiv Sena, for its part, said that Singh’s allegations have distorted the image of the MVA government.
In a conversation with reporters in Nashik On Sunday, Sena leader Sajay Raut said such allegations against the cabinet minister are shocking to someone like him, who is the government’s benefactor. « The government does not make decisions based on what the government says or demands Opposition. But I have to accept that in the last few hours all the allegations that have come to light through a letter have distorted the image of the government. «
» Now we all have to sit down and think about how we can improve the image the government can clean up. But as I said before, all members of the alliance in the state must see whether their feet are on the ground, « said Raut.
Congress has also warned that the issue is the MVA government will dwarf. Party leader Sanjay Nirupam said the party had to take a stand on this issue.
The opposition Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) of Raj Thackeray have called for Deshmukh’s resignation. In fact, the FOJ put pressure on the state government by holding demonstrations in several locations.
Former Mumbai Police Commissioner Param Bir Singh wrote a letter to Maharashtra Prime Minister Uddhav Thackeray on Saturday claiming Deshmukh indulged in « wrongdoing » and asked suspended policeman Sachin Vaze to raise £ 100 million a month from the city’s joints.
Singh said in the eight-page letter that he was « scapegoated for attention distract from the real culprits « .
Singh was arrested during an investigation by the National Investigation Agency (NIA) as a police superintendent in Mumbai for the recovery of a vehicle laden with explosives that last month outside the residence of industrialist Mukesh Ambani in southern Mumbai was found parked, excluded. The NIA also arrested Vaze in the same case.
