Porsche unveiled the 2022 911 GT3 last February, but the German carmaker has not announced the entry-level price for its racetrack-inspired, street-legal 911 sports car. But now it’s finally revealed. The 2022 Porsche 911 GT3 has base prices starting at $ 161,100 (excluding $ 1,350 target fees) and costs significantly more than the outgoing GT3 model.
How much? It’s quite a lot. When you consider that the GT3 had a base price of $ 143,600 last year, the 2022 911 GT3 is around $ 17,000 more, which is the equivalent of a brand new Kia Soul or Kia Rio hatchback. Porsche has made more tech and chassis improvements to make up for this, however, and the list of mods will swoon the hardcore Porschephiles.
It starts with a 4.0-liter boxer-six naturally aspirated engine that pumps out 502 horsepower, 346 pound-feet of torque, and a heady 9,000 rpm engine speed. Porsche claims that this engine is technically identical to the boxer six in a 911 GT3 Cup racing car. It has six independent throttle bodies to improve throttle response, while dry sump lubrication with a seven-stage suction management system protects the engine during sustained high-rev operation.
The standard transmission is a seven-speed PDK dual-clutch automatic with paddle switches, but you can ask for the optional six-speed shifter too. Regardless of which one you choose, the power is only transferred to the rear wheels. With the PDK automatic, the Porsche 911 GT3 drives from zero to 60 miles per hour in 3.2 seconds, which is pretty fast for a street legal sports car. The top speed is now 197 mph.
For its base price of USD 161,100, the Porsche 911 GT3 has body parts made of carbon fiber reinforced plastic (CFRP) and noise-insulated glass to reduce weight. It features bespoke aero attachments, including new side skirts, a larger rear diffuser, and a vintage-style, manually adjustable, gooseneck rear spoiler.
In combination with an adjustable front spoiler lip and a front diffuser, the 2022 911 GT3 generates 50 percent more downforce than the outgoing model when the front spoiler and rear spoiler are in normal mode. In the toughest performance mode, the 911 GT3 offers 150 percent more downforce than the old car.
Among them, the 200 Porsche 911 GT3 has a double wishbone front axle (derived from the 911 GT3 Cup and 911 RSR) and a multi-link rear axle for sharper steering and more skillful handling. Porsche drove the 2022 911 GT3 around the Nürburgring-Nordschleife and completed the 12,944-mile course in less than seven minutes, 17 seconds faster than the outgoing car.
In the interior, the latest 911 GT3 has, for the first time in a GT3, a multifunction sports steering wheel with a driving mode switch. It also has 18-way sport seats and a GT-specific route screen mode for the driver display. The 2022 Porsche 911 GT3 arrives at dealers this autumn.
