The Rangers rolled on Friday night with the same line-up they used for their dominant win against the Flyers on Wednesday, but the result was a heartbreaking 2-1 defeat in Washington.

On Wednesday were head coach David Quinn and his coaching staff unavailable after entering the COVID-19 log just before the game. So the Hartford Wolf Pack crew simply used the schedule that was set up for them, which led to the historic 9-0 victory.

Reigning head coach Kris Knoblauch and Wolf Pack deputy coach Gord Murphy, as well as deputy general manager Chris Drury followed Quinn’s instructions on Friday again – this time against the capitals.

« It’s the [decisions] of Quinn and his coaching staff, » said Knoblauch before his second game behind the Rangers bench. “It might have been a little different if we had lost [on Wednesday]. Ultimately it would be his decision, but if we had lost and things hadn’t gone well we would have said, « How did you feel? Any changes? Do you think someone didn’t leave? »

« Then would We’re probably talking and discussing line-up changes. Obviously we won’t change anything with the way last night went. «

With the same line-up as on Wednesday, striker Julien Gauthier was in street clothes for the second time in a row.

Garlauch added added that very few changes had been made after the team’s offensive explosion in the garden two days earlier, which Flyers trainer Alain Vigneault, former Rangers boss, described as « embarrassing ».

The Wolf Pack trainer in the second Jahr noted that the only difference for the Rangers will be their opponents. He also mentioned that he has a better feel for the players.

« Which they prove what kind of role they are suited for, whether it is a defensive zone, a left side or an offensive zone that is down the power play can recover, a kind of flow of lines, « said Knoblauch. « I think I have a better feeling for it. »

Goalkeeper Igor Shesterkin skated on Friday morning but is still considered commonplace with a groin strain. Friday’s game was the eighth game in a row that Shesterkin was unavailable.

Knoblauch said Thursday that the 25-year-old Russian netminder was an opportunity for the second game in Washington on Saturday.

Alexandar Georgiev’s second start in a row on Friday in the second half of the third half dropped two goals in 3:09 against the main actor of Capitals, Alexander Ovechkin. Both Ovechkin’s goals came at the same spot in front of the Rangers’ fold after a bouncing puck jumped straight onto his stick.

« A bit of déjà vu on this second goal, pretty much the same, » said Chris Kreider. « Rotating hard there and putting pucks and bodies in the net is a recipe for scoring goals, something we could probably do a little more of tonight, but we certainly haven’t overlooked that. »
