World news – The star of Concussed Roosters is « back to normal ».

Sydney Roosters coach Trent Robinson says co-captain Jake Friend is « back to normal » after his concussion but his return is still based on expert medical opinion.

Freund has been out since sustaining a head blow in the Roosters’ opening-round win against Manly, but is back in training as he weighs his return to the field in the coming weeks. .

Robinson announced that the Queensland Origin representative will need to see another specialist before the club can sit down with him to decide his future game.

Meanwhile, however, he said that Friend is recovering well as he accelerates his workouts to make a comeback.

« We’ll sit down with Jake later this week or early next year to end the process and what we’re going to do, » said Robinson.

« But he’s fine. He’s fine and he’s back to normal and he’s back to training with weights and running.

« He feels normal and he hasn’t done it long after, but there’s obviously a story we need to go through to make sure we get it right.

He said the process to decide when Friend should return to the pitch is not officially set in stone, and the final decision will be made with the Roosters doctor in consultation with Jake himself.

« There is no process and no one describes a process of what you should do, » he said.

« It’s up to the club doctor. There is the post-game concussion process and you need to see an independent doctor for now this year, but after this weekend that process is not there.

« The process is the story of the player and how much you care about the player and how long it will take you to get that player right.

« That leaves Tom, our doctor, who was great, and a couple of us in the club to have a talk.

The Roosters have set a strong precedent for the club’s handling of concussions from players like Friend, Boyd Cordner and Luke Keary.

However, Robinson is not proud that the Tricolors solved the serious problem better than other teams.

« We want to win and we want to keep winning, there is no question about that, but if this were our son what would we want?

« Me, you can balance the two – win and do what you can for someone you care about – then you will find the right answer. »
