World news – Titanic calls Cam Smith’s future

Melbourne Storm flyer Josh Addo-Carr wouldn’t be surprised if Cameron Smith continued playing in 2021 after the future Immortal played a season once after just two weeks of pre-season training.

All of the storm’s players have now returned to pre-season training with the exception of Smith, who is no longer on a contract and is still publicly undecided about his future.

It is believed that he lives on the Gold Coast with his family and either retires or plays with the Gold Coast Titans.

While all indications suggest that Smith played his last game in storm colors, Addo-Carr knows from previous experience that he cannot rule out the legend of the 430 games. He pointed to the preseason that led into the 2017 season when Smith arrived later than most but in top nick.

« I remember my first year he had a two-week preseason so he could come back two weeks before the first round, » he said. « I wouldn’t be surprised if he kept playing, but as everyone knows, he had a great career and is the best who has ever made it.

The two-time Premier League winger admits he would have « gladly » returned to Sydney this year but has pledged to be fully committed to defending the 2021 Premier League storm.

Addo-Carr has a year left on his current Storm contract before returning to Sydney with Canterbury, where he signed a four-year deal starting in 2022.

When asked Thursday whether he would seek an early release to return to Sydney this year, he replied:

« Being away from Twin Waters (last year) probably refreshed me a bit because I’m not in Melbourne. But yeah, it’s what it is and I like coming to training and I like being with the guys and the coaching staff together.

« I’m very excited to have my future settled, but my focus here is on the storm. »

While the rising star Harry Grant is sitting in the box to pick up jersey No. 9, there is also a vacant wing position after Suliasi Vunivalu’s departure.

« You have a couple of young people who have trained there and you have (recruiting bulldogs) Reimis Smith, » he said. « Whoever gets this job, I’m sure they’ll do the job. »
