KOCHI: Ernakulam, who reported the most numbers in Covid cases for most of last year, breathed a sigh of relief when the massive vaccination campaign began on Saturday. Dr. Jose Chacko Periappuram, renowned heart transplant surgeon who was the first to receive the shot at Ernakulam General Hospital, urged people to come forward without hesitation. As I work in the medical field, I can assure you that it is very unlikely that the vaccinations could have any major side effects. As we are struggling under the tight grip of Covid-19, this is the only solution that lies ahead of us and this is a small risk we all want to take, ”said Dr. Jose.
In the meantime, Dr. Junaid Rahman, senior physician and former DMO at Ernakulam, who tested positive for Covid-19 last year and struggled through the disease, said he was relieved to get the sting. “The health sector worked around the clock during the Covid-19 battle, which is still ongoing.
