Almost 100 foreign tourists were caught in a police raid on a ski resort when they violated the country’s coronavirus rules.
The tourists came from different countries including Australia as well as Great Britain, Denmark, Sweden, Germany and Romania.
The raid in Tyrol on Friday evening resulted in 96 quotes from foreigners being handed over after 44 accommodations in St. Anton am Alberg and in the Stanzertal had been checked.
The Mayor of St. Anton , Helmut Mall, rang alarm bells after he said that in his opinion there were too many foreigners in the area who were not allowed to be there due to virus rules.
They were apparently taking advantage of loopholes in the regulation by creating a second Registered residents and said they were looking for work.
« But there are currently no jobs in tourism, » Mall said, according to the newspaper Kurier.
