World news – Tuivasa-Sheck leaves NRL in Warriors Blow

The NRL has been left behind by one of its brightest stars, Roger Tuivasa-Sheck, who wants to leave Warriors and the competition.

Warrior superstar Roger Tuivasa-Sheck will leave the NRL and sign a deal with New Zealand rugby to represent the All Blacks at the 2023 World Cup.

Tuivasa-Sheck has been in secret negotiations for the past few months after the Warriors granted permission to only speak to the 15-man game.

He will play one final season in the NRL before changing codes in late 2021. Then he is expected to play for the super rugby team, the Auckland Blues, the rugby union’s biggest coup since Sonny Bill Williams was signed.

Although his current contract expires at the end of next season, the Warriors have told Tuivasa-Sheck that they will not stand in the way of an early exit. Instead, the 27-year-old is believed to have included a clause in the contract stating that he must return to the club if he returns to the NRL.

The timing of the 2023 World Cup has meant that Tuivasa-Sheck – who has long had the ambition to be an All Black – is now or never. New Zealand rugby stated that he had to be in their ranks no later than 2022 for a chance of selection.

He spent time with the All Blacks Sevens roster during the final out of season practice before returning to his Warriors teammates for the preseason.

Tuivasa-Sheck considered changing codes at the end of a 2020 season and had talks with the All-Blacks and Auckland Blues, but they failed to hit his salary of over $ 1 million, which would have forced him to pay a 50 percent cut .

He was also reluctant to leave the Warriors so late in the season, which made it virtually impossible for them to replace him.

However, if the Warriors make a decision before the current NRL campaign begins, they will have the option of going to the open market with a seven-figure war chest to find a replacement for their skipper.

The last year has been a tough one for Tuivasa-Sheck, who did it harder than the other team-mates of his Warriors and spent the entire season outside of his young family. He’s part of the team in Tamworth before the Warriors head back to the Central Coast next week.

Tuivasa-Sheck told the Warriors website earlier this month that he was better prepared not to live at home.

« It’s definitely a lot easier this time because it’s planned, » said Tuivasa-Sheck. « That’s probably for the best, there’s a little more plan.

« My family will be here in February when we make our second move to our next location. »

Tuivasa-Sheck has been one of the game’s best players since stepping on stage with a noticeable sideways step for the Roosters at the age of 19. He left the Roosters with a Premiership before joining the Warriors in 2016.

Tuivasa-Sheck was the first Warriors player to win the Dally M in 2018 and was awarded the Golden Shoe in 2019.
