Tulsa has officially announced penalties for 13 players involved in the ugly brawl with the state of Mississippi after losing 28:26 in the Armed Forces Bowl last month.

According to a release from the Hurricanes -Program on Friday morning, the players involved will receive « appropriate and different disciplinary action, jointly implemented by (Tulsa University) and the conference. » These penalties include reprimand, community service, and stoppage of play.

Apparently, the Tulsa Sports Department condemned the actions that took place after the bowl game was lost.

« We were extremely disappointed with the actions that followed the game « Interim Sporting Director Rick Dickson said in a press release. « The university expects all sports teams to set an example of excellence in athletic performance and demonstrate Tulsa’s values, including integrity and respect.

» The behaviors observed after the bowl game do not reflect that (Tulsa University) values that we want to convey to future leaders. As an educational institution, we will take the opportunity to help all of our student athletes, not just the sanctions, learn from this teachable moment and make sure it doesn’t happen again. «

According to the release on Friday, Tulsa was working with the American Athletic Conference to reach the relevant penalties. A statement released by the AAC shows that the conference accepts the sanctions validity.

» Though As we continue to be disappointed that the actions of a few people overshadowed a competitive and enjoyable bowl game, I would like to commend the University of Tulsa for their thorough and determined action, « said AAC Commissioner Mike Aresco. » We expect one from our student athletes The highest level of behavior and athleticism and will continue to hold those who do not meet this standard accountable. «

Of course, a brawl implies that two parties were involved – and the Bulldogs were equally (if not more) to blame for the situation. A Mississippi State player even stepped inside amid a flurry of blows and helmet vibrations en player while on the ground.

While Tulsa has been proactive in taking responsibility, no penalties have been imposed by the State of Mississippi or the SEC. Head coach Mike Leach was criticized for his post-game comments, saying, “Don’t do it anymore.”

Since a statement from Mississippi sporting director John Cohen was released the following day, we have had nothing of the program Bulldogs Heard.

« While I am proud to have represented our student soccer athletes in our last 10 SEC games, and applaud our team’s efforts during the Armed Forces Bowl, I am deeply concerned about the actions of some of the student athletes, » said a Cohen said in the publication. “Regardless of what led to the situation, fighting is inexcusable and does not represent the core values of Mississippi State University. Our administration and (Head Coach Mike) Leach are working diligently with the SEC office to review what happened yesterday and will address the situation appropriately. “
