The Tour Down Under in Australia which was due to take place in January has been canceled because the Covid-19 pandemic made logistics difficult, organizers said on Sunday
Traditionally the first World Tour race of the season, the race was scheduled to take place in Adelaide January 14-24, but the country’s quarantine measures have proven to be a major hurdle in bringing the teams to Australia
« With over 400 people making up the international teams, this has proven to be the most difficult to overcome, » said Hitaf Rasheed, executive director of Events South Australia, in a statement.
« The complexities and risks of quarantining and closing international borders ultimately proved too much to ask of some of the teams, who have endured a stressful, difficult and compressed 2020 season that will unfold later than normal «
The Cadel Evans Great Ocean Road Race, one-day races for men and women which were due to take place at the end of January, will not be organized either
