In a broad statement on the end of the 2020 Kangaroos season, President Ben Buckley said the team were « keenly aware of the speculation » on Shaw
« We haven’t been able to say anything as we respect the wishes of Rhyce and her family, » Buckley said.

Shaw, who played 237 games with Collingwood and Sydney before retiring in 2015, took over the leadership role at North Melbourne during the 2019 season, replacing Brad Scott
The team only won three games in the 2020 season, which Buckley described as « a terribly trying and difficult year for everyone »
