NT police confirmed the man’s death Thursday afternoon, just under a week since the accident in the Alice Springs central business district last Thursday evening
The man was tagged on social media as Shane Powell, Alice Springs Disability Support Worker, 47
Wayne Thompson, a family friend, said on Thursday the decision had been made to remove M’s life support system Powell
« Doctors who have fought relentlessly can do nothing more and Shane’s brain injuries are just too bad, » M said. Thompson in a Facebook post
Police allege that the five indicted were all occupants of the car that hit Mr. Powell at the intersection of Stott Terrace and Telegraph Terrace
Two 19-year-old men and three youngsters – aged 16, 15 and 13 – face hit-and-run charges causing serious injury and failing to save or provide assistance
Police say the three youngest, all on bail, are due in court tomorrow
They said one 19-year-old was remanded in custody until November 3 and the other, on bail, would face court at a later date
