World News – UA – City shaken as shark victim

Chances of finding a surfer caught by a shark remain slim, as locals demand action in the latest attack to rock an Australian west coast town

Andrew Sharpe was surfing around 1045 a.m. at the kelp beds near Esperance when he was bitten and dragged beneath the surface A surfboard with bite marks washed up later, but the father of two has not yet been found

This is the fifth incident in the region in just seven years, with a teenage girl killed at the same location three years ago

« Sharks have still roamed these waters at Esperance for years and decades. We don’t swim in these waters too far from shallow waters, » said Denise Colbung

Esperance senior sergeant Justin Tarasinski said up to eight surfers were in the water at the time of the attack

« The surfboard ran aground near where the attack took place and with obvious signs of a shark attack, » he told reporters on Friday

« The chances of survival are obviously pretty slim considering some of the accounts provided to us »

The search, involving jet skis and boats, was called off due to lack of daylight on Friday night, but will resume on Saturday morning, with police divers also set to join the desperate search

« We’ve had a lot of attacks over the past seven years It’s really, really disappointing »

Hope shark attack, hope shark attack
