World News – UA – Courtney signs deal with Tickford for 2021

James Courtney will continue to ride a Tickford Mustang backed by Boost Mobile in Supercars next season

The 2010 series champion joined the Ford team under bizarre circumstances earlier this year, replacing an ill-fated Will Davison, whose funding has dried up due to the pandemic

By this point, Courtney had already gone through a dramatic break with the Sydney squad after just one round and was considering a limited wildcard program only for Davison’s departure to facilitate a surprise full-time return

This relationship is now expected to continue for at least a year, with Courtney and Boost Mobile signing with the team for 2021

« This year has been an absolute roller coaster with everything that has happened, but being here in Tickford thanks to Boost Mobile has been amazing, and continuing this relationship until 2021 is just fantastic, » said declared Courtney

« I developed a great relationship with the boys on my car, the team has been very welcoming from day one and luckily we were able to score some good results on the track as well.

« I really couldn’t have asked for a better place to be, and the partnership has also been great for Boost I guess the saying goes ‘if it ain’t broke don’t fix it’, so it makes sense for all of us to keep the party going «

Tickford boss Tim Edwards added: « When you look at how it all came together, it’s pretty impressive what James and the team at Boost Mobile were able to accomplish.

« In fact, he still hasn’t had a single day of testing with us, but he fits in perfectly with the team and the car. With a good chance to prepare for a full season, we are both confident that there will be a lot more to come from JC and the Boost Mobile Mustang in 2021

« Continuing with Boost itself is great Obviously they jumped on board at a critical time for our team, and it paid off for everyone. Our partnership is growing stronger and indicates more success on and off the track in 2021 «

What is not clear is what race rights contract will underpin the entry As it stands, Courtney’s car is listed under the license of Phil Munday, who was leased to Tickford as part of the Davison / Courtney exchange

Sport automobilecom understands that Boost boss Peter Adderton has not bought a REC for 2021, despite his long-term team ownership ambitions, which suggests Tickford will provide the entry
