Former Australian swimmer Brenton Rickard tested positive for a banned drug from a sample taken at the London 2012 Olympics
Former breaststroke tested positive for banned furosemide diuretic when re-screening donated sample after competing in men’s 200m breaststroke final eight years ago
Rickard was part of the Australian men’s 4×100-meter medley Olympic team that won bronze in 2012, meaning the entire six-man squad could be deprived of their medals

He and Tommaso D’Orsogna swam the heats to advance to the men’s medley final, where the team of Hayden Stoeckel, Christian Sprenger, Matt Targett and James Magnussen finished third
A ‘devastated’ Rickard will appear before the Court of Arbitration for Sport in Switzerland on Monday, where he will fight to ensure his relay teammates are not stripped of their medals
He informed his former medley relay teammates of the ‘shocking situation’ in a heartbreaking email which he described as one of the struggles he ever wrote down
He added that a new analysis did not detect the presence of another banned substance that could have a performance-enhancing effect

Rickard also competed in the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing, where he was part of the 4 x 100m medley team that won silver
