Former union heavyweight admits stealing nearly $ 70,000 from his former employer for personal effects and travel
Former Health Services Union boss Kathy Jackson has admitted to stealing nearly $ 70,000 from her former employer, following unprecedented convictions for similar fraud offenses
The former union heavyweight pleaded guilty in Victoria County Court Monday to two counts of obtaining a financial advantage by deception
Court documents show she abused her job to evade $ 67,79285 personal credit card debt between July 2003 and November 2010
Her guilty plea means that it can be revealed that she was convicted last year by a jury and convicted of two more counts of obtaining a financial advantage through deception
Jackson transferred $ 22,000 from union funds in 2008 to buy a Mercedes Benz from the husband of former union legal counsel
She also asked the union for $ 13,100 for reimbursement of travel and accommodation expenses in the United States
The same jury acquitted her of 18 counts of theft, including one for obtaining financial advantages and property by deception
She was praised for speaking out against her predecessor, former Labor MP Craig Thomson, and former HSU General Secretary Michael Williamson in 2011
Williamson was then jailed for stealing nearly $ 1 million from the union and recruiting others to prevent a police investigation
The federal court ruled that she owed the union $ 2 million, including for embezzled funds for groceries, travel, entertainment and even her divorce
