The horse racing community has been rocked by the news that champion Winx has lost her first foal

Winx was scheduled to deliver superfather I Am Invincible’s filly later this month

Trainer Chris Waller released a statement Tuesday on behalf of the Winx Ownership Group, which were shocked by the news

« It is with great sadness that the Kepitis, Tighe and Treweeke families wish to inform everyone that, unfortunately, overnight Winx lost their foal, » the statement read.

« Our thoughts and attention right now are on Winx, ensuring that she stays healthy, as anyone in this situation would respect

« This is a traumatic time for a mother and those involved and Winx is now the center of our attention following the loss of a beautiful filly this morning »

The news of the sad loss of Winx and all those linked to the champion mare has left racing fans heartbroken on social media

The incomparable Winx retired from racing after recording his 37th victory at the Queen Elizabeth Stakes at Randwick in April of last year

The victory was his 33rd in a row and gave him a world record 25 wins in Group 1, amassing more than $ 26 million in cash prizes

The legendary mare became the first racehorse in history to win the Cox Plate four times after jockey Hugh Bowman led her to victory in 2018

She was served by I Am Invincible last season and was doing well before her first foal was born
