(Trinidad Guardian) Finance Minister Colm Imbert says Trinidad and Tobago will become a digital economy
In presenting his budget presentation for the fiscal year 2020-2021, the Minister of Finance shared some ideas on how this budget will lead to the transformation of Trini-papa and Tobago into a digital economy

This concept was a priority for the Rowley administration and was widely promoted in the August election.
The Minister noted that the government is focusing on e-governance, e-banking and e-commerce, among the many systems to develop technology in Trinidad and Tobago.

Most of the planning and implementation will be channeled through the new Ministry of Public Administration and Digital Transformation

“A fully digital Trinidad and Tobago is essential for the growth and diversification of the economy,” he said. “In this context, the Ministry of Public Administration and Digital Transformation has been tasked with lead the necessary changes necessary to achieve this goal He has been mandated to ensure broadband broadband access, including the required ICT infrastructure, is available to all, ”said Minister Imbert

He argues that the ministry was also mandated to create an electronic population register or electronic identity for each citizen, to facilitate the transmission of data to all agencies. He said this should streamline processes, as well as identify and eliminate waste, duplication and inefficiencies.

The tax package also offered incentives to companies investing in technology with the establishment of a technology investment fund and a special-purpose technology promotion and development company.
« A technology investment fund and a technology promotion and development company will be created The fund will be available for viable technology start-ups and new technology companies The new digital economy is expected to transform all industries and is very different from the old economy ”, explained the Minister of Finance

He added: « The allocation is set at 150% for a cap of $ 3 million Tax relief will be given to companies engaged in technology solutions and digitization Incentives will go to companies creating jobs in technology industries »
