World News – UA – Labor MP in hospital after collapsing in Parliament during heated speech

New South Wales Labor MP Chris Hayes was rushed to hospital after collapsing in Parliament as he gave moving speech on child sexual abuse

M Hayes became visibly upset when speaking about his cousin’s experience of child sexual abuse at the hands of the Catholic Church

A number of other politicians, including party colleagues Michael Freelander and Tanya Plibersek, rushed to his aid as help was requested

« May I thank Dr Freelander and [Member of Parliament] Dr [David] Gillespie who rushed to the Federation House to assist and all members on both sides who acted with care and compassion « , he declared

« I spoke with [his wife] Bernadette, who was with him in the hospital, where he will stay overnight for additional tests »

M Albanese stated that M Hayes, who is the chief opposition whip, was « in a good mood »

« I told the Chief Opposition Whip if he wanted permission he should just ask, there are easier ways to get it than what happened this morning but I can’t wait to bring it back to this room «

« We can disagree on a lot of things here, but we all agree that Chris Hayes is a really good guy, » said Scott Morrison

« And many of us also know Bernadette, she has been welcome here around this place for many years… our prayers are with you »
